Wearing an outfit that appears unassuming in the front, only to turn around to reveal a toned back is incredibly sexy. Direct everyone's attention to your general direction, for the right reasons. Here's how to be a show-stopper, while maintaining your elegance.

Depending on your undergarment, going backless can either look chic or slovenly. The enemy of any backless ensemble are visible bra straps. If possible choose a bra with a lower strap, but if your outfit is of the low plunging back variety, opt for an adhesive bra instead. Once you've find suitable support, everything else should align itself.

Popstar Rihanna took the backless plunge in a black Armani dress at this year's Grammy awards, but she also seemed to have taken a frontal leap as well. If Rihanna brought a little too much sexy back for your taste, there are ways to achieve a less risqué look. Remember, for a dose of elegance, it's best to showcase one body part, no more.

Carrie Underwood's long-sleeved, low-back Gomez-Gracia gown is the perfect example of doing the backless trend, the right way. She radiated elegance by keeping the front of the dress fairly modest, and only revealing that tanned, toned back of hers.

You too can make people yearn to see you leave by wearing sexy cutouts, racerbacks, or something with an intricate pattern. Opt for a feminine silhouette, preferably without a low neckline. Again, too much skin will work against you, if elegance is what you're hoping to achieve. To really stand out, add a punch of color.

If you want to go backless at a work event, or family gathering, it's best to follow in Carrie's footsteps instead of Rihanna's.
