Britney Spears has said that the gay community is the inspiration behind her single, Work Bitch, The Huffington Post reported Oct. 18.

Spears was in London last week promoting her forthcoming album, Britney Jean. She appeared on the Alan Carr show , who is a gay talk show. The 31-year-old fielded questions about the term "bitch". She said it was meant as praise rather than an insult.

"I don't call everyone ... that word. I just use it as, it's like in respect to the gays as a term of endearment," she said. "It's like a street slang for everyone, you know, like you get to work, that's what you do when you get to work and it's, like, cool."

Carr did not challenge her assertion. Earlier in the month, Spears came under controversy because of how she described gay people. Spears gave an interview to 99.7 NOW FM in San Francisco. She was asked what she thought of gay people and her response offended many as it was considered condescending.

"A lot of my hair stylists and my beauty team that I work with are gay so I hang out with gays a lot and I just think they're adorable and hilarious," Spears said.
