Beyoncé had a screening for her self titled visual album on Saturday, Dec. 21 in New York.

The School of Visual Arts in NYC hosted the Pretty Hurts superstar and hundreds of her fans who gathered to screen all of the 17 videos on her new album. The clips were played in succession as if it were a movie. Afterwards, Beyoncé addressed the crowd and took their questions as to how she got to this point in her career.

"I felt like I wanted to follow in the footsteps of Madonna and be a powerhouse and have my own empire," the 32-year-old said.

Beyoncé was returning the compliment as the Queen of Pop attended her Dec. 19 concert. At one point during the show, Beyoncé gave Madonna's daughter, Mercy James, a kiss on the forehead. Beyoncé said that she also wanted to "show other women, when you get to this point in your career, you don't have to go sign with someone else and share your money, and your success, you can do it yourself."

Beyoncé released her album in a surprise move on Dec. 13. She explained the thought process that was involved.

"I said to so many people, 'I have an idea to do a visual album,' and everyone was like 'Ok,'" she told the crowd. "And we did it! And not only did we do it, it's my company and I'm very proud of that."
