Chris Brown is suffering from bi-polar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder, according to new court documents.

In the documents, which have been sent to the Los Angeles court system by the treatment center where Brown has been getting help, Brown's mental diagnosis is explained.

"Mr. Brown will require close supervision by his treating physician in order to ensure his bipolar mental health condition remains stable," read a portion of the document published by E! Online on Feb. 28. "It is not uncommon for patients with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Bipolar II to use substances to self-medicate their biomedical mood swings and trauma triggers."

The document continued, "Mr. Brown became aggressive and acted out physically due to his untreated mental health disorder, severe sleep deprivation, inappropriate self-medicating and untreated PTSD."

In addition to his highly publicised assault on former girlfriend, Rihanna, Brown has been involved in several other physical incidents. Two years after the altercation, in 2011, Brown appeared on NBC's TODAY show, and after being asked about Rihanna, threw an object at a glass window, causing it to shatter. One year later, Brown was involved in a bar fight with Drake at a New York City nightclub.

Months later, Brown and Frank Ocean reportedly engaged in a brawl over a parking space, outside a recording studio in West Hollywood. During the feud, Brown allegedly called Ocean a "fa**ot."

On Oct. 27, 2013, Brown was arrested for felony assault in Washington, D.C. At the time, it was said that Brown broke his victim's nose. Because of this incident, Brown could be found to be in violation of his probation (the five-year probation he was placed on following his assault on Rihanna).

Brown is due back in court in April.
