Valerie Harper is reportedly responding well to her ongoing treatment for brain cancer.

Although the actress isn't yet cancer-free, Harper is doing well and says she's optimistic about the future.

"My last scans have been positive, and my doctors are very happy," the 74-year-old star told Closer Magazine in an April 16 interview. "[The oncologist] looked at the scans and said, 'Oh my god, Valerie, this is very encouraging!'"

In March 2013, Harper revealed to PEOPLE Magazine that she was suffering from terminal brain cancer and said doctors had given her three months to live. The news, which came just three years after Harper was diagnosed with lung cancer, was certainly devastating for Harper, but she stayed positive, promising not to think of dying, but rather of living in the now.

Sixth months after discovering the brain cancer, Harper was alive and well and signed on to Dancing With The Stars' 17th season, where she and partner Tristan MacManus lasted until week three.

When asked whether or not she was currently in remission, Harper explained, "My doctor doesn't use that term. He likes to say, 'I give you treatment, and it's either responsive or nonresponsive - and you are having a phenomenal response.'"

Although Harper was also quoted as saying she was "absolutely cancer-free," she later released a statement calling the quote "erroneous" and clarifying that she wasn't yet cancer-free but continues to be "cautiously optimistic" about her present condition.
