Cypress Hill rapper B-Real took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

However, instead of dumping ice water on his head, as the challenge calls for, he used marijuana. Yes, you heard correctly! B-Real dumped a large bucket of marijuana buds on his head.

The rapper, whose real name is Louis Freese, refused to use water. "I know we're going through a drought, so we're going to do things a little different," he said in the video, which was posted to Hustla Subs, a hip-hop YouTube channel.

The ALS Bucket Challenge has turned into a global phenomenon, and is rapidly evolving with each video. Celebs have been a bit creative, substituting water for other household items.

According to an Aug. 27 report by Billboard, Miley Cyrus dumped a bucket of rice on her head, while actor Charlie Sheen dumped money.

As for B-Real's decision to use marijuana, he might be onto something.

According to a study published earlier this year by CNS Neuroscience and Therapeutics, cannabis may be an effective treatment for the disease, which degenerates muscle tissue.

The study found a drug developed by GW Pharmaceuticals, which contains cannabidiol and THC, two ingredients found in marijuana, could slow the progression of ALS symptoms in mice.

Remember, ALS is a disease that has no current cure, so this could be a huge breakthrough for the 30,000 American who suffer from the disease at any given time.

There are plenty of questions that arise from the Ice Bucket Challenge. Some critics say completing the challenge is a way out of donating money to the ALS Association. Instead contenders are spending their money on buckets and ice.

Regardless, there is hard evidence the spread of awareness is helping to raise money for the disease. As of Tuesday, the ALS Association has collected $88.5 million in donations this summer. Last year in the same period, the Association collected just $2.6 million.
