The popular TV show "24″ starring Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) returned to FOX earlier this year and the revamped season wasn't the ratings buster that they were hoping for. With that said, it looks like Sutherland is ready to put Bauer up for good. However, this is a change of heart from his comments on the show earlier this year.

Kiefer had to say earlier this year about the possibility of another season of "24" happening next year:

"I'm missing Jack already, I love playing him. I can never say never, the role is in my blood. My biggest fear about bringing Jack back was, can we produce the standard that the fans have been used to? I still feel there are more stories to tell and lots of directions we can take. Hand on my heart there are no discussions about a new season at the moment, but I am sure there will be at some point."

These are his most recent comments though with a seeming change of heart, "Me, I don't see going back to it. We had set out to do 12 episodes to end the show and deal with some of the past history of the show. It was also an irresistible opportunity to go shoot in England. So for all of those reasons it made sense to do that last season."

Sutherland didn't want to completely rule out a return however, adding: "But I think I said the same thing at the end of season eight so I would hate to be held to that."

Since "24" has been off of the air for four years before this year, they thought a shorter season might fit in better to today's television landscape. "People's viewing habits have changed, Katz said. "Asking people to devote 24 weeks is a bigger ask than it was years ago. This is more inviting. It's not going to happen all the time. It's not taking place over a year and it gives the network an opportunity to put more oomph beyond the launch."

Maybe Sutherland got what he needed to out of his system by coming back for the one season, or maybe the show wasn't coming back again anyways with the low ratings. What do you make of Sutherland's most recent comments?
