The CW's The Vampire Diaries Season 6 episode 11 which airs Thursday, January 22, is entitled 'Woke Up With a Monster.' Directed by Paul Wesley from a script by Melinda Hsu Taylor, the show will have Elena (Nina Dobrev) waking up still captive by the warlock Malachai 'Kai' Parker (guest star Chris Wood).

As seen in the closing scenes of episode 10, Kai cloaked Elena and himself, preventing the vampire Damon (Ian Somerhalder) from noticing them escape. He knocked Elena out and abducted her for reasons not yet clear. Episode 11 opens with Elena still captive by Kai while he learns to control his newly acquired magic.

Meanwhile, at the Salvatore mansion, the witch Liv (guest star Penelope Mitchell) and the vampire hunter Alaric (Matt Davis) try to prepare the long inactive witch Jo (guest star Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) for the impending merge ceremony with Kai. However, they realize that Jo is weaker than they previously thought. When Jo was 22 year old, her twin brother Kai tried to gut her with a kitchen knife while she was protecting their younger siblings, the twins Liv and Luke, from the power-obsessed Kai. Since the incident, Jo relinquished magic in favor of a teaching career in medicine.

Elsewhere, the vampire Caroline (Candice Accola), after bringing her mother Sheriff Forbes (guest star Marguerite MacIntyre) home from the hospital, travels with the vampire doppelganger Stefan (Paul Wesley) to North Carolina in search of a cure for her mother's cancer. However, Stefan, who has his own intentions for traveling to North Carolina, is caught off guard when the vampire Enzo (Michael Malarkey) suddenly shows up and demands to know what he has been hiding. Finally, during the episode. Damon discovers that Elena has been kidnapped by Kai. He is forced to rethink his strategy after an unexpected visitor arrives to throw a wrench into his plan. Michael Trevino as the hybrid werewolf Tyler, Steven R. McQueen as the medium and supernatural hunter Jeremy Gilbert and Zach Roerig as the vampire hunter Matt also star in the episode.
