The poem about "Lucy and Little foot sitting in the cave..." might actually be true after all. New dating techniques and some careful research has revealed that the Little Foot might have actually existed in history, reports CS Monitor.  A team of researchers have used some new dating techniques and tried to estimate the age of Little Foot which is a South African fossil specimen and its age has been debated for over 20 years now. 3.67 million years old, this fossil could been on the Earth at the time of Australopithecus afarensis, that includes the famous Lucy, from the poem.

The fossils has been taken to an Old World monkey which deals in rarity in paleontology and the fragments which were found during the discovery of the fossil were found there - which included pelvic bones, a full skull, limbs, all belonging to the same individual, most probably the Little Foot. Scientists say that Little Foot is a member of Australopithecus afarensis or Australopithecus africanus. Even though they have established so many facts, there are a lot of confusion still making the rounds. Drawing a conclusion for its age has been inconclusive for now; some researchers say its 4 million, while some say it is only 1.4 million, reports UPI.

All the confusion started because of the fact that there were 2 specimens of the little foot and not just one, sparking many debates amongst scientists that even if the whole theory about the little foot and Lucy is correct.

It is almost impossible to carve out correct information about everything that was present during the Stone Age, and that too which such limited resources, say researchers. They are continuing their study for this, keeping all the fossils with the research center.
