As it turns out, the mystery character is set to play a major role when the series returns on Freeform. Executive producer Matt Hastings has already teased that the new character will play a major role in "Shadowhunters" Season 2 Episode 11, offering hints that this could be Clary's brother Jonathan.

"I think this character's going to play a huge part in the summer season," Hastings admitted to Access Hollywood. In addition to that, the executive producer teased that the alliances of the new owner of the Soul Sword will be uncertain. "I think you're not going to know if they're good," he added. This certainly sounds a lot like Jonathan, who goes by the name Sebastian in the "Mortal Instruments" book series. Will Clary's brother finally be introduced in "Shadowhunters" Season 2 Episode 11?

Jonathan has been referenced to in the TV series, where Clary believes her brother was killed in a fire. However, Jonathan has been revealed to be well and alive in the books, where he takes on the identity of Sebastian Verlac and befriends Clary. There is a possibility that Jonathan (or Sebastian) will finally make an appearance in "Shadowhunters" Season 2 Episode 11.
