Christina Applegate had audiences rolling on the ground laughing in 2004's "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy," but unfortunately (as of now) it doesn't look like the blonde beauty will be returning for the sequel.

E! News talked to Applegate, 40, at the Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards, where the actress, who was honored with the Norma Zarky Humanitarian Award, revealed that she hasn't been approached yet to appear in the movie.

Applegate starred as Veronica Corningstone, a female anchor who becomes co-anchors with Ron Burgundy, "San Diego's top rated newsman." Set in the 1970's, the comedy highlights the changes made to a male dominated broadcasting world when a female employee joins the team.

"Of course I would love to be there," Applegate told E! News. "They know that. The world knows that. Why would I not want to? It's the best job I've ever had - that and "Sweet Charity." They know that I want to be there...Even if it's just a walk-on."

Applegate's shocking reveal comes after David Koechner, who played Champ Kind in the first film, confirmed that Applegate's character, Corningstone, would be returning to the Channel 4 Evening News team.

According to Perez Hilton, Koechner said "Yes, yes," about Corningstone's return.

Writer and director Adam McKay announced that shooting for the "Anchorman" sequel won't begin until February 2013, which leaves plenty of time for Applegate to jump on board.

Will Ferrell announced plans for the sequel when he appeared on late night talk show "Conan," dressed as "Anchorman" character Ron Burgundy.

Contact Music confirms that Steve Carrell will be returning to "Anchorman 2" as Brick Tamland, and Paul Rudd is set to reprise his role as Brian Fantana.
