'I Love Lucy's" Doris Singleton Passes Away, Lucie Arnaz's Heartwarming Eulogy

This week Hollywood lost many great entertainers, unfortunately "I Love Lucy" actress Doris Singleton was one of them. Doris Singleton, who played Lucy and Ricky Ricardo's neighbor on "I Love Lucy" died on Tuesday at the age of 92.

Singleton was a recurring guest star from 1951 to 1957 on "Lucy," starring in 10 episodes as Lucy's 'frenemy' Carolyn Appleby. Besides "I Love Lucy," the actress also appeared in numerous shows throughout the 1960's like "My Three Sons," "Hogan's Heroes," "The Munsters," "The Dick Van Dyke Show," "Days of Our Lives" and many  more.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Singleton met "I Love Lucy" star Lucille Ball at a performance of the her radio show, "My Favorite Husband." The radio show later lead to the TV sitcom "I Love Lucy."

Lucille Ball's daughter (with Desi Arnaz), Lucie Arnaz wrote a beautiful eulogy about Doris Singleton, who was not only her mothers co-star, but a longtime friend.

"A day of saying hasta luego to two great ladies, Nora Ephron and Doris Singleton," Lucie Arnaz wrote on her Facebook. "May they both fly swiftly heavenward and enjoy a blissful rest for jobs well done down here. They were loved and appreciated and will be missed."

Singleton was born in New York on Sept. 28, 1919. The actress began her career dancing at the American ballet Theater, where she eventually moved to radio, and then TV with "I Love Lucy."

"It was such a wonderful show," Singleton told OnTheRedCarpet.com last year of her time on "I Love Lucy." "It was so well written and not to mention that Lucille Ball was the most fantastic comedian ever. It was a good, nice, I hate to say - clean show, but it was."

Doris Singleton was married to TV screenwriter Charles Isaacs for 61 years. Isaacs died at the age of 88 in 2002.
