Over the weekend Olympic gold medalist Shaun White was arrested for vandalism and public intoxication. The snowboarder is now speaking out on the incident, and issuing a public apology.

White took to his Facebook page Tuesday afternoon to issue his statement.

"I want to apologize for the unwise choices I made over the weekend and for any inconvenience it caused my family, friends, business partners, the hotel and their guests. I was celebrating a happy occasion with a ton of family and friends and got carried away. I'm truly sorry for my poor behavior."

The Olympic athlete started some trouble around 2 a.m. Sunday morning at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel in Nashville. People.com reported that White was in town for musician Patrick Carney's wedding. While wedding guests revealed that the snowboarder was "friendly and nice to everyone," the night got a little rowdy.

White reportedly smashed a hotel phone and pulled a fire alarm, resulting in the evacuation of the whole hotel. According to E! Online, White then tried fleeing from the scene with the arrival from police. A hotel guest allegedly chased after the snowboarder and was kicked by him. The guest continued chasing after White, and collided with him, causing the athlete to fall and hit his head against a fence.

White was taken to a local hospital, where he was booked for vandalism and public intoxication. According to Perezhilton.com, police attempted to cut the snowboarder a break. Police sources revealed that White was initially going to get a misdemeanor citation, but the snowboarder refused to sign the citation. The source continued that "he basically put himself in jail by not signing [the citation]."
