Natalie Portman is taking a walk on the lighter side.

The usually brunette oscar-winner debuted her new light blonde locks At the Van Cleef & Arpels Dinner for L.A. Dance Project in Los Angeles on Saturday night.

Keeping with the lighter theme, Portman wore a white Dior Couture gown accented with sparkling Van Cleef & Arpels jewels as she posed with a scruffy Robert Pattinson.

Portman's husband, choreographer, Benjamin Millepied, was also at the event and according to an eyewitness the trio chatted up a storm.

"They were very friendly," the eyewitness told Us Weekly . "They were laughing aloud and smiling. Rob . . . was having a great time."

Pattinson was especially in good spirits, we suspect his recent reconciliation with girlfriend, Kristen Stewart added to his lightness of heart.

"At one point he was laughing so hard, he almost spit out his beer!" the witness said of the Twilight hunk. "He seemed to be enjoying himself."

Portman told the press her new hue is courtesy of a film she's currently shooting. It's not the first time the actress has changed her hair for a movie role. In 2006, she sported a G.I. Jane-inspired haircut for her role as Evey in "V For Vendetta."

The Israeli born beauty approached the situation with the same intensity as putting on her lipstick.

For me, personally, I was excited to have the opportunity to throw vanity away for a little and go around with no hair, but, obviously, I was in character at the moment it happened, so for her it is a very traumatic experience. She is not choosing it. It's being forced upon her as a pretty violent act. " she said.

"it was always something I've wanted to do. Making a dramatic change that isn't reversible is always a worthy experience, and that sort of gave me the courage to do it. "
