Channing Tatum Is People’s ‘2012 Sexiest Man Alive’: Was Ryan Gosling Robbed Again?

Channing Tatum has had an incredible year. After wooing thousands of women to watch Magic Mike, Channing Tatum has won the prestigious "Sexiest Man Alive" award from People Magazine.

"My first thought was, 'Y'all are messing with me,'" said Tatum when he found out about the news according to People Magazine. "I told Jenna after we'd been in the bathtub washing our dogs because they'd gotten skunked."

"She was like, 'What?'" he said. "Yeah, she calls me [the Sexiest Man Alive] now."

Many have been outraged by People Magazine's decision given the boyhood charm of Channing Tatum. Although the star was formerly a stripper and starred in a movie where his clothing was torn off in almost every scene, many believe that Tatum doesn't have the level of class necessary for the award.

"Brace yourself for the inevitable backlash from Ryan Gosling fans: Once again, someone else-namely Channing Tatum-has robbed him of his rightful place as People's Sexiest Man Alive," reports Newser. "Expect outrage, considering Gosling fans actually protested outside the People offices last year after Bradley Cooper was crowned instead of the Gos. (Cooper himself eventually admitted that Ryan is way sexier than he is.)"

Canada.com was also critical of the decision, calling for Ryan Gosling fans to make their voices heard. After Cooper's Sexiest Man Alive cover was revealed last year, fans -- and George Clooney -- questioned People's judgment. Petitions were created, demonstrations were staged outside of People's New York office. One year later, the #OccupySexy movement lives on -- strong like a chiseled six-pack and smoldering with the heat of a million whispered "hey, girls." (P.S. People mag: The Gos can dance, too.)

Buzzfeed ripped into People's decision by posting two very detailed articles opposing the decision. In an article titled "22 Times Channing Tatum Has Looked Totally Not Hot," Buzzfeed staffer Whitney Jefferson posted several occasions that Channing Tatum was dressed like a slob. The Buzzfeed staff member asserts that Channing Tatum only looks good when he's not wearing any clothes.

In another Tatum-hater article titled "Why People Magazine Is Blind, Ignorant, And Dumb," Buzzfeed staff writer Matt Stopera compares more than a dozen photos of Channing Tatum to Ryan Gosling. The article also asserts that Tatum is terrible at dressing himself and does not have the same class as a man such as Ryan Gosling.

E! Online was slightly less harsh. "There is no question about it-Hollywood is full of hot men, and the newly declared Sexiest Man Alive Channing Tatum is definitely one of them. But he's not the only one, and (let's be honest) he's not everybody's pick for the No. 1 sexy spot," wrote the entertainment news site. E! Online put together its own list of the sexiest men in Hollywood that included many alternatives to Channing Tatum.
