Katy Perry: I Had a Crush on John Mayer for a Long Time

Katy Perry has admitted that she has long had a crush on boyfriend John Mayer, PEOPLE reported Wednesday.

Perry is the W cover for its November issue. She shared that Mayer had always been someone she was interested in from afar. The two have been dating on and off for the past year.

"I actually am dating my crush. I had a crush on him for a long time, and it just so happens we fit together great," Perry said.

Perry did not go into further detail about her romance with the 36-year-old musician. However, she did describe her feelings after her marriage to Russell Brand ended. The two were married for 13 months when he filed for divorce in December 2011. Their divorce was finalized in the summer of 2012.

"I really loved [being married]," she said. "It was a new, fun, exciting journey. But I like how I am now, and I think all things happen for a reason."

Perry hinted that she was more than ready to have her marriage end. It was no longer beneficial to her development.

"If you are not happy with something, you should change it. So I went to a lot of therapy, and finally, I am able to speak up for myself: You are going to hear me roar!" she said.
