Mariah Carey found working at American Idol comparable to the devil, PEOPLE reported Wednesday.

Carey was chosen to join the Fox staple in its 12th season in 2012 to much fanfare. However, the Grammy winner lasted only one season after the series experienced a slump in ratings. She also butted heads with fellow judge, rapper Nicki Minaj who famously threatened to do harm to the #Beautiful singer.

"Honestly, I hated it," Carey told Hot 97's Angie Martinez on Tuesday.

The singer was sipping on cider during the interview. She further explained her contempt for the show she signed on for an $18 million paycheck.

"I thought it was going to be a three-person panel," she admitted,  believing it  would be fun working alongside with Randy Jackson. "But it wasn't that."

Carey and Jackson have been friends for many years and he has served as her manager.  Country artist Keith Urban was the other judge expected but it did not come to pass for Carey. She gave a damning comparison of her overall time spent on the show on the receiving end of Minaj's barbs.

"It was like going to work every day in hell with Satan," Carey said.

Carey quickly followed up with a laugh and insisted she was only joking.

"I'm just playing. It didn't affect me that much," she continued. "I was disappointed."
