Amanda Bynes is doing well as she focuses on her career in the fashion industry.

In a new interview, Bynes' mother, Lynn, is speaking out, giving fans an update on her daughter's mental health post-rehab.

"[Bynes] is doing extremely well," her mother, Lynn, told PEOPLE Magazine on March 28. "She's making new friends and learning about the fashion industry."

For nearly three months now, Bynes has been attending classes at the Orange County campus of the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in hopes of becoming a designer. And while Bynes completed the first quarter of classes last week, sources claim she will begin her second quarter in April.

"She acts like any other student - focused and friendly," a school source told the magazine.

In early 2013, Bynes was struggling with a mental disorder (she is now on medication for schizophrenia), which led to several strange incidents and a strained relationship with her parents, but after getting treatment a handful of psychiatric treatment centers, Bynes is now in a much healthier place and her relationship with her parents is thriving.

"She's very happy to reestablish the loving relationship with her family she once shared," Bynes' mother's attorney, Tamar Arminak, told PEOPLE in Dec. 2013.

However, while Bynes is making huge strides towards normalcy, she will remain legally under her mother's care until at least September.
