Rita Wilson has reportedly made a change to her family's diet following Tom Hanks' diabetes diagnosis.

After it was discovered that Hanks had been suffering from Type II diabetes at the end of last year, Wilson and her family made the decision to get healthy, focusing on a better diet and regular exercise plan.

“We’ve really cut back a lot on sugar, and we find time in every day to exercise,” Wilson told PEOPLE Magazine at the Los Angeles premiere of Fed Up. “We actually walk and hike together. When [you] were younger, you used to watch what you eat and exercise because you wanted to look really awesome, and now it’s because you want to feel really awesome."

In Oct. 2013, Hanks revealed to David Letterman that he had been diagnosed with Type II diabetes. Hanks had been struggling with high blood sugar numbers since the age of 36, and by the time he was 57, doctors gave him the official diagnosis. During the interview with Letterman, Hanks explained that the illness was "controllable" and that doctors had recommended he pay close attention to his weight.

“Just being aware of what you eat and what you put into your body, this is where it all begins," Wilson continued of her goals for her family. "It’s always about awareness.”

Other celebrities struggling with Type II diabetes include Paula Deen, Randy Jackson and Drew Carey, all of whom have gone public with their diagnosis.
