LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian are opening up about their decision to do a reality show on VH1.

In just days, Rimes and Cibrian will make their reality TV debut in LeAnn & Eddie on VH1, but before their big day, Rimes and Cibrian opened up about their decision to expose their lives in a reality series.

"We wanted to do a show and I think that this format and this genre, unscripted, gave us an opportunity to do something fun and work together," Cibrian explained during Friday's 2014 Summer TCA Press Tour, according to a July 11 report by E! News. "What's really real about the show is our relationship juxtaposed by everything the public reads and is fed by the tabloids…ultimately, this is a comedy and that's how we go about our life as well, is we laugh and it really helps."

Rimes and Cibrian's relationship has been a hot topic in the press for the last several years. While they were both married to someone else, Rimes and Cibrian fell in love in the set of Lifetime's Northern Lights. Then, after getting divorced, Rimes from Dean Shermet and Cibrian from Brandi Glanville, Rimes and Cibrian were married. Since their wedding, Rimes and Cibrian have engaged in several public feuds with Cibrian's wife, who stars on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, over everything from their finances to their two children, Mason and Jake.

Although some have felt that LeAnn & Eddie is Rimes and Cibrian's way of getting back at Glanville for her public comments about them, the pair claim that is not the case.

"This show is not an opportunity to fire back at anybody," Cibrian insisted. "If anything, it's very much a satire and you'll see that."

"We do talk about the kids in the show. We do discuss Eddie's ex-wife when it needed to be discussed..…you can't really do a show without talking about that," Rimes added.

LeAnn & Eddie premieres on Thurs., July 17 on VH1.
