Lamar Odom has just lost his chance at a comeback.

After Odom was signed by the New York Knicks at the end of last season, he appeared ready to get back to focusing on his career, but sadly, after failing to live up to the team's expectations, he has been dropped.

"Unfortunately, Lamar was unable to uphold the standards to return as an NBA player,” Knicks president Phil Jackson said in a statement, via a July 14 Us Weekly report. “We found it necessary to free up the roster spot.”

In 1999, Odom entered the NBA and played for the Los Angeles Clippers for four years. From there, he went on to play for the Miami Heat from 2003-2004 and for the Los Angeles Lakers from 2004-2011. At the end of 2011, Odom was traded to the Dallas Mavericks, which fans of Keeping Up With The Kardashians saw on the show, as well as on the series' spinoff, Khloe & Lamar. After playing for the Mavericks for just one season, Odom returned to the Clippers and later became a free agent. Around that time, Odom was making headlines for his alleged drug use and infidelities.

After separating (unofficially) from his wife, Khloe Kardashian, Odom traveled to Spain, where he played briefly for Laboral Kutxa before being signed by the Knicks on April 16, 2014.

“There was a lot of hope there when he had his first initial talks with Phil [Jackson],” an insider told Us Weekly. “He gave him a real shot. He kind of threw this one away. He wasn't in it. He's not doing great. Admittedly, he's had a couple rough hands dealt with the family and the Khloe situation being pretty frequently thrown in his face.”
