Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are moving on from their marriage in the best way possible -- as friends.

Although news of Carey and Cannon's impending divorce just hit the web last week, the pair have reportedly been separated since May, and while things between them were ugly at first, they have since made it a point to move forward in a civil manner.

"They are not only on good terms -- primarily for the sake of their kids -- they even went to dinner Friday in Tribeca," TMZ reported on Aug. 26. "It's all about the kids ... they're both committed to making the divorce as easy as possible on them."

On Aug. 21, following news of the couple's breakup, TMZ reported that their lawyers had been working on a property settlement and custody agreement for their 3-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, since May, when they began living in separate houses in New York City.

According to the report, Carey and Cannon's split was initiated after Cannon's appearance on Big Boy's radio show. During the appearance, Cannon discussed his past sexual encounter with Kim Kardashian, which completely "humiliated" Carey. Then, during a second appearance on Howard Stern's radio show, Cannon made things even worse when he claimed his wife wouldn't have sex with him until they were married.

Carey was also unhappy, reportedly, with Cannon's work ethic -- despite his making $75 million for their family since 2011 (according to TMZ's report).

"They will NEVER get back together," TMZ's source added.

Carey and Cannon married in the Bahamas on April 30, 2008.
