Big news for the worldwide gay community!

Former Miss Spain Patricia Yurena Rodriguez has come out as lesbian, making her the first openly gay national beauty queen in the country.

Rodriguez came out in an Instagram picture with her girlfriend on Aug. 19, laying in bed and gazing lovingly into each other's eyes. She captioned the photo "Romeo and Juliet."

And who is the mystery woman, you may ask? Her name is Vanessa Cortes, a Spanish DJ, and according to Rodriguez's Instagram account, the couple appear to be happy and in love.

According to an Aug. 24 report by La Nacion, an Argentine daily newspaper, Rodriguez claims that she and Cortes have known each other for about a year, and have been dating for roughly three months.

The photo has garnered some much-deserved attention, calculating up to 7,000 likes and over 1,000 comments.

Rodriguez even posted a follow up Instagram, thanking her fans for their loyal support.

The 24-year-old explained that this was an impulsive move and was not at all calculated. No publicity needed, Rodriguez just wanted to show the world her love.

"I do not regret what I did," she told local Spanish newspaper, La Opinion de Tenerife on Aug. 21. "I'm thrilled with what is happening to me."

She also left a loving message to fans, which read, "I appreciate the outpouring of support and even more, to rejoice in my happiness. Thank you!"

Rodriguez has made the news for winning the title of Miss Spain in 2008 and in 2013, and then again for competing for the Miss Universe in 2013. She may not have taken home the prize in Moscow, Russia, but she did win runner-up after Venezuela's Maria Gabriela Isler.
