Diem Brown has been stripped of the possibility of having a child.

After collapsing on the set of The Challenge earlier this month, Brown was rushed to a New York City hospital, where she underwent an emergency hysterectomy after being diagnosed with cancer for the third time. Following the surgery, Brown opened up about her devastation.

"When I came to, they told me that they couldn't save my uterus," Brown told PEOPLE Magazine on Aug. 27. "That was a blow. We'd fought so hard to keep it. Might sound silly to most, but it's what made me still feel like a woman and gave me hope for a future. I felt empty ... gutted."

When she arrived to the hospital, it was discovered that Brown had developed tumors in both her stomach and her colon. Right away, doctors took her in for a first surgery, which left her without a uterus and with a colostomy bag. Days later, she underwent a second surgery due to complications from the first.

"I was completely defeated, honestly," Brown admitted.

However, when looking at the bigger picture, Brown realized she was lucky to be alive -- especially after hearing her team of doctors explain how "touch and go" she was throughout the second surgery.

"It put things into perspective," she said. "I might not have the ability to ever carry a child and I have this damn bag for the time being – but I'm alive."
