"True Detective" Season 2 on HBO has announced new cast member, singer/actor Rick Springfield, joining for the upcoming episodes. It is not confirmed if Springfield's role will be a guest star or series regular yet.

"Just finished my 1st day of shooting for season 2 of HBO's True Detective. What a great script. Working w/ Colin Farrell & Rachel McAdams!" Springfield tweeted late Wednesday.

Springfield is best known for his hit single "Jessie's Girl," but has done several acting roles on Drop Dead Diva, General Hospital and Californication, where he played himself. He recently completed filming Ricki and the Flash with Meryl Streep.

The HBO series has become one of television's best series and in an unusual twist, the series will have a new lead character going into Season 2 replacing Matthew McConaughey. There were several names that were rumored to be potential casting moves, but in the end they chose Colin Farrell for the role. According to Variety, Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, "a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him."

The next male lead announced is Vince Vaughn. He will portray Frank Semyon, "a man in danger of losing his criminal empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner."

The Hollywood Reporter did a video interview with show creator Nic Pizzolatto as he shared about his experience with the hit show.

"My job is to tell the best story I can with the most compelling characters," says the creator and showrunner. "I just don't know any other way to create other than the personal and people respond to the stuff that you know I had to bleed for."

"True Detective" Season 1 ran from January through March of 2014. The show had huge ratings from the start and Nic Pizzolatto signed a two-year deal with HBO.

Pizzolatto will again write every episode; unlike the first season, each episode will be directed by a different director. "True Detective" Season 2 is expected to release in Summer 2015.
