Lionsgate's Mechanic: Resurrection, the sequel to 2011's The Mechanic, is scheduled to be released on January 22, 2016. Directed by Dennis Gansel from a script by Philip Shelby, Tony Mosher, Rachel Long and Brian Pittman, the follow through film is being produced by William Chartoff, David Winkler, John Thompson and Frank DeMartini.

The 2011 original reportedly grossed $76 million worldwide against a production budget of $40 million. The film itself is a remake by director Simon West of the 1972 movie of the same name directed by Michael Winner which starred Charles Bronson and Jan-Michael Vincent. Bronson then portrayed the 'mechanic' in the title.

Filming for the sequel started in Bangkok, Thailand on November 4 with Jason Statham reprising his title role as the 'mechanic' Arthur Bishop, a master assassin bound by a strict code of ethics as a professional hit man who can make his kills look like accidents, suicides or the acts of petty criminals. After faking his own death, as seen in the closing scenes of the first film, Bishop tries to walk away from his past and begin a new, more peaceful life. But someone he knows from his previous work pulls him out of his retirement by kidnapping the love of his life, forcing him to travel the globe to complete three seemingly impossible assassinations. And he must make them look like accidents.

Joining Statham is a new cast that includes Jessica Alba as Gina, Tommy Lee Jones as Max Adams, Michelle Yeoh as Mae, Sam Hazeldrine as Crain, along with Yayaying Rhatha Phongam, Raicho Vasilev, John Cenatiempo, Rachel O'Meara, Sam Stevens, Geoffrey Giuliano, Eoin O'Brien, aarom Brumfield, Bonnie Zellerbach, and Dylan Farrell.

Before Mechanic: Resurrection screens a full twelve month yet from now, Statham will first be seen as main villain Ian Shaw in Furious 7 which shows in theaters on April 3, and then as Ford, Melissa McCarthy's fellow CIA operative, in the comedy Spy which will be released on May 22.
