Sony Pictures Entertainment has now officially announced the release date for it's National Football League concussion drama, Concussion. The studio stated on 27th January that the sports drama film will be released on Christmas this year. Ironically, the statement was made a day after Paramount Pictures decided to postpone the release of Mission Impossible 5 from Christmas Day to July next year.

The factual drama is based on Heanne Marie Laskas's GQ article Game Brain and has been written and directed by Peter Landesman. Will Smith, the 46-year-old Americal actor, rapper and producer is playing the role of UC Davis Medical Center's Dr. Bennet Omalu, a neuropathologist who investigates concussion injuries among NFL players. The movie then revolves around Dr. Omalu's struggle to attract public attention towards the sports injuries that tends to make the players weaker and infirm.

Apart from Smith, the movie stars Alec Baldwin as Dr. Julian Bailes, Luke Wilson as Roger Goodell, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Prema Mutiso, Paul Reiser as Dr, Elliot Pellman, Albert Brooks as Cyril Wecht, Mike O' Malley as Daniel Sullivan, Arliss Howard as Dr. Joseph Maroon, and David Morse as Mike Webster. The shooting for the movie began on Oct 27, 2014 in Pittsburgh.

Along with Sony, 20th Century Fox has also booked the 25th December release date for three of its movies-drama movie Joy, action movie titled The Revenent, and Alvin and the Chipmunks 4. Whereas the much-awaited Star Wars: The Force Awakens is scheduled to release a week earlier on 18th of December.

We will have to wait and see how all these movies perform on the big screen during the festive season.
