Harrison Ford, 72, is in serious condition after crash landing a plane in Venice, California on Thursday.

According to NBC News, Ford crash landed the vintage World War II training plane he was piloting at the Penmar Golf Club in the 1200 block of Rose Avenue in Venice.

Howard Teba, who was at the golf course when the plane crashed, told NBC that the pilot was the only person on board the plane. "We saw this beautiful plane. It looks like a plane I see often leaving from Santa Monica Airport. Must have hit top of tree," he said. "There was blood all over his face ... Two very fine doctors were treating him, taking good care of him. I helped put a blanket under his hip," he added.

Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration told NBC that Ford's plane did take off from the Santa Monica Airport shortly before it crashed.

According to Variety, Ford crash landed after something apparently went wrong mechanically with his single-engine plane at around 2:25 pm. The actor reportedly walked away from the crash, and was later attended to by two physicians who were on the scene.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene a short time after the accident, immediately transporting Ford to a nearby hospital. His son Ben later via Twitter said his father was "battered but OK. Thank you all for your thoughts and good vibes for my dad."

Ford is a private pilot of both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters who is known for personally providing his services during local search-and rescue emergencies. He is the chairman of the Young Eagle program of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and is an Honorary Board Member of the humanitarian aviation organization Wings of Hope.

During the filming of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, which will be released on December 18, Ford who is reprising his role as Han Solo previously fractured his leg after a hydraulic door fell on him.
