Netflix has finally began production work on the long-gestating Pee-Wee Herman full-length feature film. The streaming network has partnered up with Judd Apatow to bring Pee-wee Herman back in the limelight. Thirty years after the iconic fictional character created and portrayed by comedian Paul Reubens, 62, went in search of his missing bike in Tim Burton's cult-favorite comedy Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Netflix has announced that it will exclusively be premiering Pee-wee's next movie, Pee-wee's Big Holiday.

Judd Apatow is producing, with John Lee making his directorial debut from a script written by Paul Rust with Paul Reubens who will of course also be reprising his role as Pee-wee Herman. In fact, Reubens has already posted at his website the first still photo from the set which he captioned "DAY TWO FILMING 'Pee-Wee's Big Holiday'!!!!!" It shows him in his Pee-Wee Herman character in the passenger seat of a car with his signature grey tux and red bow tie. Back in February, Reubens in a statement said: "Judd and I dreamt up this movie four years ago. The world was much different back then - Netflix was waiting by the mailbox for red envelopes to arrive. I've changed all that. The future is here. Get used to it. Bow tie is the new black."

Tara Buck, 40, best remembered as Ginger in the True Blood TV series, is confirmed co-starring with Reubens in the upcoming Pee-Wee Herman movie. Aside from her, no other cast member has been been announced but cameos from big-name comedy actors and actresses associated with Apatow Productions like Seth Rogen, Adam Sandler, Amy Schumer and several more may be expected. While no release date has been announced, production will start in March. A brief description of the upcoming comedy flick reads: "In Pee-wee's Big Holiday, a fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger inspires Pee-wee Herman to take his first-ever holiday in this epic story of friendship and destiny." Reubens in a previous interview describes the movie thus: "It's a road-trip movie across the country. It's very similar in style and tone to Pee-wee's Big Adventure. But it's not about a bicycle. I never really thought of Big Adventure as a family movie, but I didn't try to make an adult movie or a kid movie. We wanted to make something that appealed to a wide age range, and I think that's the case with this movie also."
