Dreamworks' Home Starring Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez Takes Top Spot at Weekend Box Office

Dreamworks Animation's 3-D computer-animated family-friendly music-filled buddy comedy movie Home starring Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez topped this weekend's box office, raking in an estimated $55.5 million from 3,708 theaters, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Home follows the story of an alien named Oh who is on the run from his own people and who lands on Earth and makes friends with the adventurous the teen-aged girl Tip, who too is on a quest of her own. The film stars Jim Parsons as the alien Oh, Rihanna as the young girl Tip, Jennifer Lopez as Tip's mother Lucy, Steve Martin as the alien Captain Smek, Matt L. Jones as the alien police officer Kyle, and Brian Stepanek as the commander of the rival alien race Gorg.

Days before the March 27 release of Home for its theater run, Rihanna launched a concept album bearing the same name which consists of 8 original songs from the movie. The soundtrack's lead single, Rihanna's Toward the Sun was broadcast on BBC Radio 1 and other hit radio stations as well as made available for download at the iTunes Store. The second single, Feel Light, recorded by Jennifer Lopez, was released soon after via the iTunes Store.

Following Home at the box office tally, Get Hard, the new R-rated comedy starring Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart, came in at No. 2 with an expected $36 million weekend take from 3.175 theaters, ousting last weekend's top film Divergent: Insurgent, which fell 58 percent to make $22 million and take third place on the charts. Disney's Cinderella, starring Lily James and Cate Blanchett, pulled in $17.5 million to grab fourth place. The only other newcomer for the week aside from Home and Get Hard is It Follows and, despite playing in only 1,218 locations, it raked in $4 million to put it at No. 5.

At No. 6 on this weekend's box office chart is Kingsman: The Secret Service with $3.1 million, at No. 7 is Run All Night with $2.2 million, at No. 8 is The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel wit $2.2 million, at No. 9. is Do You Believe? with, $2.2 million, and at No.10 is The Gunman with $2 million.
