Earl Simmons, 44, better known by his stage names DMX, best recognized for his work on the hit single "Party Up," is being accused by a 21-year-old man who told Newark cops that he had been robbed by the rapper and his entourage of approximately $3,200 in cash at gunpoint at an Exxon station just after midnight on Easter, according to the New York Daily News.

As gathered by the news site, the alleged victim told police that the conflict began after he recognized the rap star at the filling station on Highway 21 and they began to talk about music. While they were talking, a member of the rapper's entourage reportedly pulled out a gun and demanded his money. After he pulled a wad of cash out of his pocket, DMX himself allegedly grabbed the money from his hand before fleeing in a fleet of four black Cadillac Escalades. The alleged robbery victim reportedly followed the rapper's caravan close enough to get the license plate number for one of the vehicles.

Newark police spokesman Sgt. Ronald Glover said the 21-year-old victim reported the incident soon after. "The two had a brief conversation about rap music and during the conversation a male in DMX's entourage, showed the victim a gun and demanded the victim's money," Glover said in a press statement. The police spokesman did not mention in the initial statement whether the license plate has been traced to DMX or any associates, or if police have yet tried to contact DMX. He said an investigation into the incident remains ongoing but no arrests have been made and no criminal charges have been filed yet.

DMX was in New Jersey on Saturday night because he was among the announced performers scheduled at the Master of Ceremony concert at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. In fact, the rapper himself on that Saturday tweeted: "Jersey!!!!! Thank You!! For real Thank You!!!!!"
