'Pitch Perfect 3' Is Happening, Rebel Wilson Already Signed on to Return as Fat Amy

Universal Pictures' Pitch Perfect 2, the sequel to the 2012 sleeper hit musical comedy film Pitch Perfect which was based loosely on Mickey Rapkin's non-fiction book Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory, has yet to hit the theaters on May 15. But pre-production on the planned Pitch Perfect 3 is reportedly already underway. Los Angeles Times' Amy Kaufman tweeted [via Vulture] that "Rebel Wilson just told me there will be a 3rd @PitchPerfect and she recently signed on to be in it! (She doesn't know abt Kendrick.)" However, aside from Wilson, no one from the cast nor the studio has confirmed the news.

As for Pitch Perfect 2, Kay Cannon also penned the screenplay to the sequel to his first story about the Barden Bellas. Elizabeth Banks produced, directed and also co-stars in the second Pitch Perfect movie. According to the official synopsis, the film will follow what happens once the collegiate a cappella group the Barden Bellas enters an international a capella competition that no American group has ever won.

Returning to reprise their Pitch Perfect roles are Anna Kendrick as Beca Mitchell, Skylar Astin as Jesse Swanson, Rebel Wilson as Patricia "Fat Amy," Brittany Snow as Chloe Beale, Ester Dean as Cynthia Rose Adams, Alexis Knapp as Stacie Conrad, Hana Mae Lee as Lilly Okanakamura, Adam DeVine as Bumper Allen, Anna Camp as Aubrey Posen, Ben Platt as Benji Applebaum, Kelley Jackle as Jessica, John Michael Higgins as John Smith, Freddie Stroma as Luke, and Elizabeth Banks as Gail Abernathy-McKadden, a commentator for the ICCAs. Hailee Steinfield was added to the cast as a new member of the Barden Bellas along with Katey Sagal as her mother. Also new to the franchise are Birgitte Hjort Sorensen, Christopher Shepard, and C. J. Perry.

In related news, during today's MTV Awards show, Wilson, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp and Haillee Steinfled unveiled a new footage of scenes from their upcoming Pitch Perfect 2 movie featuring the Bellas taking on a German lead by Flula in a competition under the category, "90s Hip Hop Jamz" that got the audience excited and nostalgic.
