Michelle MacLaren Leaves 'Wonder Woman' Movie In-Development Project Due To "Creative Differences" with the Studio

Michelle MacLaren has dropped out of directing Warner Bros. And DC Entertainment's Wonder Woman in-development film due to creative differences, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Given creative differences, Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together,"  the studio reportedly said in its statement.

MacLaren, 50, a Canadian TV producer and director best known for her work on such hit series as Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and The X-Files,  would have made her big-screen made her directorial debut on the Wonder Woman movie which was already set to begin shooting this fall. Back in November, the studio announced that she would develop the script and direct the project. The film, the fourth intended installment in the DC Cinematic Universe, was also announced as set to be released on June 23, 2017.

Gal Gadot who was cast as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman for the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the sequel to 2013's Man of Steel, was also signed to a three picture deal with the studio which includes two Justice League films and a solo Wonder Woman film. The standalone Wonder Woman film, according to Bleeding Cool, would be the first in a planned three-film series. It would be set during 1920s, then a sequel would follow to be set during World War II in the 1930s-40s, and the third film would come next to be set in the present day.

The first standalone Wonder Woman movie already has on board Charles Roven, Zack Snyder, and Deborah Snyder as producers. Jason Fuchs was also reportedly already in talks to write the drafts for the script with MacLaren.

According to The Wrap, MacLaren is now being rumored for the coveted job of directing Captain Marvel, the rival studio's first female-driven superhero movie, which is slated for release on July 6, 2018.
