Star Wars are uniquely taking their naming game into some kind of art. Entertainment Weekly reported them to be like John Travolta announcing people at the Oscars and that's what kept the film on top. They have legit set of names that we've never thought existed.

Entertainment Weekly interviewed the director and co-writer of Star Wars, J.J Abrams. He revealed the reason on how and why they came up with the name of the characters.

Luke Skywalker. His last name is an obvious linkage to space adventure but "Luke" also came from the Latin word lucere, which means light.

Darth Vader. The name came from a variation of "dark" and the Dutch word for "father" which is vader.

Finn and Rey. J.J Abrams was half lip-locked on revealing why these characters lack a last name. He just said that their last names are not intent for public record.

Poe Dameron. Abrams came up with the name because of his emotional attachment to both names. Poe reminded him of his daughter's polar bear Poe [Po' - short for polar]. Dameron on the other hand felt "musically right" for him.

Oscar Isaac. He named the character after his long-time assistant.

BB-8. He named the droid of how it looked like to him - with the 8 and 2 B's.

General Hux. This name may have a deeper meaning. Abram is unsure about how did they come up with the name.

Captain Phasma. He named the character because of the wardrobe Michael Kaplan's team created. The wardrobe features a chrome design which reminded him a lot of the horror film in 1979, Phantasm.

J.J Abram is a fan of Phantasm as he also named another character related to the movie, Stormtrooper.
