John Legend took some time off his busy schedule to raise awareness on immigration problem in the country. He and Colombian musician Juanes met immigrants detained at a jail in Arizona and even performed for them.

On Thursday, in front of Eloy Immigration Detention Center, where an estimated 1,500 immigrants are detained, the two Grammy singers performed their hearts out, Fusion reports. According to Page Six, the singers each devoted two songs for the immigrant detainees. They also sang a song together, Bob Marley's "Redemption Song." The small crowd that turned up were so moved they even sang along.

Legend then told the enthusiastic crowd that they were there to know of the immigration problem in the country, witness for themselves what is happening to the detained immigrants and then share their observations to the world. Immigrant right activists and relatives of detainees cannot help but cheer at this heartfelt pronouncement. People on the crowd held up signs about deportation problems. They also chanted "Not one more deportation."

Their performance came after Juanes and Legend toured the premises of the detention centre and even talked to some of the immigrant detainees. The two singers shared their hearts were broken by what they saw. One of the detainees' relative, Maria Gomez, claimed that Legend's and Juanes' efforts are appreciated, especially since most artists will not do something like it. Gomez's brother and other relatives are being detained after they travelled from Mexico City to Nogales, Arizona, to seek asylum.

It does come as a surprise that the artists took time to do this because their schedules hardly permit them to do anything other than focus on their music careers. Legend, for one, is working hard to release a new album this year. He was seen making his way through LAX Airport on Tuesday, smiling. Speaking with MTV, he revealed that his new album might be out either in summer or in fall this year. "[I'm] just in the studio working on my album, that's the main focus, and working with some really talented musicians and hopefully we'll make something beautiful," he detailed.
