Yuri Katsuki has definitely touched a lot of hearts. His personality and experiences are so relatable that viewers can feel that he could be a real person. Well, as a matter of fact he is. The popular "Yuri On Ice" protagonist was actually created with two real-life Japanese figure skaters in mind.

A fan posted on Tumblr the connection of Yuri Katsuki to Yuzuru Hanyu and Tatsuki Machida. Just like his "Yuri On Ice" character, Yuzuru Hanyu also has an ultimate Russian figure skater idol as well named Evegeni Plushenko (real-life version of "Yuri On Ice" Victor Nikiforov).

For those who have watched the Japanese sports anime television series, it was certainly obvious that Yuri Katsuki has been trying his best to be as good as his idol Victor Nikiforov. Yuzuru Hanyu, on the other hand, is also known to be praising Evgeni Plushenko and his talent. Physically, Yuri Katsuki resembles Yuzuru Hanyu much more compared to another Japanese figure skater that was ian inspiration of his character, Tatsuki Machida.

Tatsuki Machida had a lot in common with Yuri Katsuki, personality-wise and experience-wise. The Japanese figure skater and the "Yuri On Ice" protagonist struggled their way up to success. They both experienced defeat before being triumphant. Just like Yuri Katsuki, Tatsuki Machida also suffers from low self-esteem after losing his very first big competition. He then worked his way up slowly but sure. But just like the ending of "Yuri On Ice" Season 1 Episode 12, Tatsuki Machida also did not win his gold medal.

While other anime protagonists have superpowers and incredible fighting scenes, the only fight that viewers saw in "Yuri On ice" was Yuri Katsuki fighting off his feelings towards figure skating and Victor Nikiforov. These realistic problems of Yuri Katsuki (troubling career and new-found sexuality) has made "Yuri On Ice" a binge-worthy series and deserving for a "Yuri On Ice" season 2.
