"Legion" Season 1 fans can rejoice! FX has renewed the drama, which is based on Marvel's "X-Men" comics, for a second season.

The cable channel announced the renewal on Wednesday a few days before the sixth episode of "Legion" Season 1 premieres. The series is created and executively produced by Noah Hawley, who also serves as the showrunner for "Fargo." It tells the tale of a supposedly mentally ill man named David Haller, who soon discovers that the symptoms of his illness are actually an indicator of a mutant superpower.

"The first season of Legion was a stunning achievement," FX programming President Eric Schrier said in a statement, according to Variety. He then went on to praise the show for having a "wholly original take on the superhero genre" and sang his praises to creator Hawley for "taking the creative risks" and "shattering expectations" during "Legion" Season 1.

Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb added that he is "thrilled" that a second season of "Legion" Season 1 will commence. "We're particularly proud of our partners at FX and the success we share on our first TV series together," he concluded. Besides Hawley, other executive producers of the show include Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Bryan Singer, Jim Chory, Loeb and John Cameron.

"Legion" Season 1 is top billed by former "Downton Abbey" star Dan Stevens, along with Rachel Keller, Jean Smart, Aubrey Plaza, Katie Aselton, Bill Irwin, Amber Midthunder, Jeremie Harris and Mackenzie Grey, and is produced by Marvel Television and FX Productions.

The show premiered with a total of 1.6 million viewers tuning in. Despite the struggle in ratings, "Legion" Season 1 has garnered acclaim from television critics and fans alike. It is also enjoying success in the Live+3 DVR playback, gaining a total of 150 percent demo bump, according to TV Line. The season finale of the show will be on March 29.
