With Matthew Morrison joining “Grey’s Anatomy,” fans have speculated that the former “Glee” star will be taking on the role of Jo’s husband. After reports confirmed that Morrison has come on board the award-winning drama, photos have already gone up online, showing the actor as he joins other “Grey’s Anatomy” cast members.

Matthew Morrison was featured in the photos as he filmed a scene with “Grey’s Anatomy” star Justin Chambers, who plays the character of Alex, known for being intimately linked to Jo (Camilla Luddington). Morrison and Chambers had been filming on location in Los Angeles.

During the same day, the 38-year-old actor shared through Instagram that he is set to take on the role of a character with the name “Dr. Paul Stadler.” However, Matthew Morrison did not confirm whether the said doctor is part of a storyline for “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Last month, it was reported by TVLine that Shonda Rhimes and the show’s casting team had been quiet in searching for a Caucasian actor in his 40’s who can fit in the shoes of a new doctor. Matthew Morrison’s character was described as “appealing, charismatic and charming,” although he can also be “manipulative” and can show a “scary dark side.” The doctor is expected to show up in the “Grey’s Anatomy” season 13 finale and will make a comeback in the fall.

During the “Grey’s Anatomy” season 12 finale, it had been revealed that Jo was hesitant in tying the knot with Alex due to the fact that she was already married. Luddington’s character was not able to file for a divorce given that she had run away from her abusive husband, to be played by Matthew Morrison himself. Moreover, fans found out about an identity issue after learning that “Jo Wilson” is not the character’s real name.

In a past interview with Debbie Allen, she told Entertainment Weekly it was highly likely that Jo’s ex-husband will be introduced amidst the unfortunate circumstances. “It’s the elephant in the room, the one piece that we have not been able to fit into the puzzle of why they have not been able to get married, what she’s been holding back and what she’s been dealing with,” she explained about the character now given to Matthew Morrison to portray. “It gives us great story.” "Grey’s Anatomy” season 13 airs every Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
