There have been reports claiming that Sui Ishida's "Tokyo Ghoul" is making a comeback this year. The news quickly circulated online after one of Viz Media executives revealed it in an interview. He said that fans can expect the third season release of the Japanese dark fantasy anime series this year apart from "One Punch Man" season 2. Despite its departure from the events of its manga origin, it remains one of the highly-anticipated anime series.

"Nothing that's been recently released, but 'One Punch Man' is coming back on with season two. There's going to be another season of 'Tokyo Ghoul' coming shortly. Later in the year, those would be the bigger releases on the anime side," Viz Media Senior Director of Sales and Marketing Kevin Hamric told IcV2. The interview was to talk about the company's engagements this year.

When the news came out that "Tokyo Ghoul" is returning after its hiatus, fans were excited about the idea of seeing Ken Kaneki again. However, it appears that this is not the case as shortly after Hamric's interview, Viz Media immediately clarified with Anime News Network that Hamric was only misquoted. The studio made it clear that there no activities going on for the series and Hamric actually meant "My Hero Academia."

The gaff certainly left fans disappointed. After the studio clarified Hamric's interview, IcV2 immediately corrected its article and replaced "Tokyo Ghoul" with "My Hero Academia." Meanwhile, there are theories that season 3 will no longer feature Ken Kaneki but a female lead character named Touka Kirishima. Some fans also say that Haise Sasaki will be the new lead character as he will become a Quinx Squad member.

It is said that Ken Kaneki will live under the name of Haise Sasaki, which coincides with some reports that Sasaki has many similar features with Kaneki. However, it is important to note that Viz Media has not confirmed any of these theories and the release date of "Tokyo Ghoul" remains to be seen.
