NBC's American reality TV singing competition "The Voice" started airing on April 2011 and became widely popular, which was expanded into a fall cycle. The network renewed the reality series for a fourteenth season and singer-songwriter Kelly Clarkson was tapped to be a new coach. The singer rose to fame when she won in 2002 "American Idol" season 1. Her recent project in the reality series sparks speculations that she was tapped to be one of the coaches, hoping to regain the ratings that used to be excellent in the past years.

Jennifer Hudson was also hired to be one of the coaches in "The Voice" season 14. Speculations are rife that NBC hired her with Kelly Clarkson in an attempt to block ABC network from tapping them to be one of the judges in "American Idol." Entertainment Weekly reports that the Idol producers were very interested in having Clarkson especially that she was first known for winning the said singing competition. Additionally, having Hudson and Clarkson will definitely help Idol rebooted and get back on track.

However, NBC denied these speculations and said that when they signed Clarkson and Hudson, they weren't thinking about "American Idol" at all. "We've been talking to those two for a long time about joining The Voice," Telegdy explained during a conference call with reporters. "We didn't make the connection between them appearing on the show and ABC's return of Idol."

NBC also said that they have been talking about acquiring "American Idol" but decided to have "The Voice" instead alongside a couple of music competition shows that are already in development. As Variety points out, Clarkson's involvement in the reality series is obviously a surprise to most fans. However, as the producers explained, they have been planning it for a while.

Nonetheless, Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson fans are looking forward to see them in "The Voice" season 14. Many fans believe that these two will be great help to the series' ratings. Stay tuned to Celebeat for more entertainment updates.
