Fans who have been hoping that "Sherlock" Season 5 will still happen in the future might be in for a major heartbreak. Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have been confirmed to work on a new TV series about Bram Stoker's novel "Dracula". Does this mean that the Baker Street Boys are done for good? Is there still a possibility that Moffat and Gatiss will revisit Benedict Cumberbatch's detective once everybody's schedule finally allows it?

The fourth season of "Sherlock" certainly concluded with some finality. After all, the last episode was called "The Final Problem". Nevertheless, fans have been hoping that they haven't seen the last of the modern-day take on Sherlock Holmes and John (Hamish) Watson. Unfortunately, it looks like Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss already have plans on a completely different TV series. Has the confirmation of the "Dracula" show meant that "Sherlock" Season 5 is officially canceled?

Variety has reported that the "Sherlock" team will be working on the new "Dracula" TV series for BBC. According to the report, the show "will adopt the same format" as the Benedict Cumberbatch series, which means that there will be three feature-length episodes per season. It is not yet confirmed whether Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss intend to bring the iconic vampire tale to modern-day London. However, it looks like the series will replace "Sherlock" Season 5.

It certainly sounds like Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will no longer be returning for another season of "Sherlock" but that hasn't dampened people's hopes. CeleBeat has previously reported on fans starting the #Bring221Back hashtag on social media in an effort to convince Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss to work on "Sherlock" Season 5. Hopefully, there will be another season of the series in the far future when the cast and crew are no longer working on separate projects.
