Poor Shia LeBeouf felt like the kid who was picked last during dodge ball on the set of his brazen new film "Lawless," also starring Jessica Chastain and Tom Hardy - set to hit theater Aug. 29.

"It was not difficult to work with [Hardy] at all," gushed Chastain of her co-star during an interview with MTV news. "There was a lot of competition with Scrabble. Most of the behind-the-scenes was games of Scrabble, sometimes we'd have two games going at once."

LeBoeuf must not have been a part of the competition because he felt excluded from the love fest, "They also found a stray dog," added the scruffy actor, who announced he would be forgoing summer blockbusters for indie films. "You guys had a lot of sweetheart stuff going on. It wasn't just Scrabble, there was a lot of..."

Apparently, Chastain knew about LeBeouf's feelings on the matter as she jumped in "He totally felt left out. Because one time, you know what he said to me, he said, 'You always choose Tom's side, Jessica, you never choose my side.' "

"Okay, now let me explain," said LeBeouf, feeling the need to defend himself to the camara."Now I'm in the hot seat, Jess. Camera, just you and me, Jess was the mediator. She was the referee a lot of the time."

"I was like the mother hen," said Chastain.

"Yeah, and so when she's the mother hen and always reffing on the err of Tom's argument, then you're always wrong. And so this is just one of the things you deal with, and there was also this superiority with age and all that stuff," he continued, "They adopted a dog together. They found a dog on the freeway; that was the set mascot. We all saw it and thought, 'This is sweet. Way too sweet.'"

About starring in another blockbuster flick like "Transformers,"  "I'm done," he said in an interview with Hollywood Reporter. "There's no room for being a visionary in the studio system. It literally cannot exist. You give [acclaimed director] Terrence Malick a movie like 'Transformers,' and he's f--ed. There's no way for him to exist in that world."
