Kendrick Lamar has been picking up accolades left and right since the release of his second studio album, "good kid, m.A.A.d. City," on October 22, 2012. Now Hip Hop magazine "The Source" has named the Compton-born rapper their 2012 "Rookie of the Year," calling his new release "one of the biggest albums of the year."

The latest issue of "Source" features an interview with Lamar talks about his childhood in Compton, California, particularly his difficult relationship with religion:

We couldn't believe something we didn't know about. As a kid, all we seeing is street s**t. When you see one of your partners get smoked and that same day you have someone coming to you preaching to you asking you, 'Do you believe in God?' it gives you a [different] outlook.

"Source" also named rapper 2 Chainz their "Man of the Year," but decided to put Kendrick Lamar on the cover of their latest issue, where's he pictured sporting a jewel-encrusted crown and a pensive look on his face.

As we noted, "Source" isn't the only place Lamar is getting some much-deserved hype for his fantastic new concept album. He was also awarded the title of "Lyricists of the Year" by BET https://www.bet.com, beating out Hip Hop heavyweights Jay-Z, Kanye West and NaS.

Kendrick Lamar seems poised to cross over into the mainstream thanks to the pure force of "good kid, m.A.A.d City," which was produced with help from Lamar's mentor and Rap godfather Dr. Dre.

On Tuesday Lamar even won an endorsement from comedic actor Jonah Hill, who tweeted, "@kendricklamar and Money Trees is also my sh*t," referencing a song off the album.
