Conrad Bain, best known for his role on "Diff'rent Strokes," has died, according to TMZ.

The 89-year-old actor played Phillip Drummond on the 80s sitcom. Drummond, a wealthy white businessman, adopted two African-American sons, played by Gary Coleman and Todd Bridges.

He was a lot like Mr. Drummond, but much more interesting in real life," Bain's daughter Jennifer told TMZ. "He was an amazing father."

Coleman died back in 2010, leaving Bridges as the lone surviving star from the series. Dana Plato, who played Drummond's biological daughter on "Diff'rent Strokes," committed suicide back in 1999, per E! Online.

"I am deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Conrad as we were looking forward to celebrating his 90th birthday next month," Bridges told FOX411. "In addition to being a positive and supportive father figure both on and off-screen, Conrad was well-loved and made going to work each day enjoyable for all of us. He will be missed, but never forgotten."

According to Hollywood Reporter, Bain also acted in several stage productions and played neighbor Arthur Harmon on the CBS sitcom "Maude." Per the Associated Press, Harmon was a conservative doctor who often clashed with the more liberal title character. Bain was apparently so convincing in the role that he was once asked for medical advice while in an airport.

The AP reports that Bain got the "Maude" gig thanks to an audition for the film "Cold Turkey." While Bain did not get the part, the movie's director, Norman Lear, remembered the audition and helped the actor snag the gig on "Maude," which Lear created.

Before becoming an actor, Bain served in the Canadian army during World War II, per Yahoo! TV. The actor was born in Alberta. He learned his craft at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts before he earned his first television role on "Studio One."

The actor's last television appearance was a guest-starring role on the CBS drama "Unforgettable" back in 2011, per Huffington Post.

Bain is survived by three children, along with his twin brother, Bonar Bain. His wife, Monica Sloan, passed away back in 2009, per USA Today.
