Young and the Restless star Eric Braeden has spoken out about the recent upheaval at the show in an interview with TV Guide that was published Thursday.

Braeden, who has played Victor Newman for more than three decades, caused a stir on Twitter August 13. He responded to a fan who wanted his thoughts on Josh Griffith leaving the post of head writer. His reply made his feelings very clear.

Braeden clarified his thoughts beyond the allotted 140 characters reserved for Twitter. He explained that he is simply not a fan of change.
“We had just gotten used to this new writing-producing regime at Y&R and suddenly there's another change, and I don't like it all! It's unsettling. So, yes, it pissed me off, though I was only responding to a fan,” he said.

Braeden said that he was not a personal friend of the exiting Griffith since he has seen too many people come and go. Braden said that there was simply no need to change writers since the ratings have seen an improvement. He also understood his decreased storyline presence.

“I know there are those who feel the veterans are not getting enough attention but that happens every summer, doesn't it? I've been at Y&R for 33 years and each summer I see them make the same egregious mistake of emphasizing storylines that are supposed to lure the mythical young demographic,” he said.

Braeden added that he did not care who or where the next head writer came from. He simply wanted a person who understood the show and maintain its stature.
“I don't give a goddamn where they come from, as long as you hire people who understand the characters and know the history of Y&R. It's that simple. We've got to keep this show No. 1.,” he said.
