George Clooney's mom is reportedly speaking out about his engagement to lawyer Amal Alamuddin.

Although Clooney has yet to release a statement confirming the news, the actor's mother has followed Alamuddin's law firm in commenting on the engagement.

"You can say I'm extremely happy, Amal's a lovely girl," Nina Clooney revealed to the UK's Daily Mail. "I like her very much. We weren’t at all surprised when they told us they were engaged, and we couldn’t be happier for them. On an intellectual level, they are equals. That is very important to him. Amal’s world couldn’t be more different from the Hollywood lifestyle."

Clooney began dating Alamuddin in 2013, sometime after his July 2013 split from Stacy Keibler, whom he had been dating since 2011.

Clooney was married to actress Talia Balsam from 1989-1993. After his divorce, Clooney was linked to several actresses and models, including Ginger Lynn Allen, Lisa Snowdon, Sarah Larson, Elisabetta Canalis, Kelly Preston and Renée Zellweger, to name a few.

When asked by the Dail Mail if Alamuddin was anything like the women previously linked to her son, Nina Clooney said, "Heavens, no! She’s a lawyer, she is brilliant, she is a very bright woman and at the very top of her career."

Just months ago, in Jan. 2014, Clooney spoke out about marriage, maintaining that it was simply not something he thinks about.

"I haven't had aspirations in that way, ever," he told Esquire. "I was married in 1989. I wasn't very good at it. I was quoted as saying I'll never get married again pretty much right after I got divorced and then I've never talked about it since."

In addition to Nina's quotes, Alamuddin's law firm also released a statement, confirming Clooney's engagement and congratulating them on their exciting news.
