Kate Upton, Justin Verlander News: Detroit Tigers Pitcher Indirectly Comments on Girlfriend's Nude Photos [VIDEO]

Kate Upton's boyfriend, Justin Verlander, has spoken out for the first time since the celebrity nude photo scandal.

Verlander, who is the starting pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, spoke to reporters before the Tigers played the Indians on Sept. 2. The 31-year-old originally declined to comment, but broke his silence by very indirectly touching on the scandal.

"I'm not going to comment on my personal life," he said, according to FOX News on Sept. 3. "I never have and I never plan on it. I keep my personal life personal. The focus for me is on the Detroit Tigers. I don't want to take any focus away from this team and what we're trying to accomplish. We're in the middle of a pennant race. We're trying to win a pennant and all of my focus currently is on doing whatever I can to help our team win our division."

The pictures in question, which were released in a giant cache of celebrity nude photos, showed the pitcher and his model girlfriend posing nude. In one, the couple was naked, standing in front of a mirror as Upton took the shot on her camera.

Verlander acknowledged that the press has a keen interest on his side of the story, and decided to address that as well.

"I know a couple of guys wanted to get some questions from me yesterday. Instead of everybody kind of sneaking around and getting questions at specific times, it's just easier to say, 'I'm not commenting on that. I'm trying to win a pennant.' I know some guys are probably getting a lot of pressure from other people to get quotes or whatever. I knew I'd be getting a lot of questions. This is it," he said.

He did not comment specifically on the pictures. However, Upton was quoted last month in Details Magazine explaining why she won't pose nude for photographers.

"For me, those photos are art. Your body is art, your body is beautiful, and to be photographed in that way is amazing and it's received in a very positive way. But with social media and the Internet and not so great bogs and the attention like that, I don't think that my pictures would be received in the way that I'd want them to be received. That's why I've stayed away from them. I really appreciate those photos and I think those women are beautiful, but I think social media and the Internet has prevented me from putting myself out there like that," she said.

It looks like she was foreshadowing what was to come.

Upton's lawyer, Lawrence Shire, said in a statement to Us Magazine, "This is obviously an outrageous violation of our client Kate Upton's privacy. We intend to pursue anyone disseminating or duplicating these illegally obtained images to the fullest extent possible."

The FBI has been investigating the situation, Fox reported.

Verlander and Upton can be seen in a video below participating in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on Aug. 18.
