It is rare for one to see a fast rising star express his sheer disappointment on the project he worked hard on and Chris Pine seems to have broken that.

The 34-year-old Star Trek: Into Darkness actor expressed that he did not give the Tom Clancy character justice and may not be brought back for a sequel. To make matters worse, the film did not seem to do well at the box office only bringing in $50 million in domestic receipts.

According to an interview with Moviefone, the actor seemed to be convinced that the poor amount of box office receipts would result to a no-sequel. "No, I don't think it made enough money for that to happen," Pine said about a possible sequel. "That's one of my deep regrets, that we didn't totally get that right," Hollywood Reporter quotes.

However, Pine still has utmost respect for the film and will not be surprised or harbor any ill feelings if he were to be replaced with other actors. "It's a great franchise and if it's not me then I hope it gets a fifth life at this point. It's just great. I love the spy genre. I hope it's done again and with a great story," quoted by Christian Post.

The Jack Ryan film is not a stranger to the silver screen as it had created several films before such as The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger and The Sum of All Fears. This film also marks the lowest sales the movie franchise had ever gotten.

Shadow Recruit was directed by Kenneth Branagh where he also served as the film's villain.

Currently there seems to be no talks between Pine and Paramount Pictures about a Jack Ryan sequel with him playing as the iconic spy.
