The Man from U.N.C.L.E. will star Superman himself, Henry Cavill and the Lone Ranger, Armie Hammer. The film will be directed by Guy Ritchie and will be written by Lionel Wigram.

Set against the backdrop of the early 1960s, at the height of the Cold War, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. centers on U.N.C.L.E. agents Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin. The two team up on a joint mission to stop a mysterious international criminal organization, which is bent on destabilizing the fragile balance of power through the proliferation of nuclear weapons and technology. The duo's only lead is the daughter of a vanished German scientist, who is the key to infiltrating the criminal organization, and they must race against time to find him and prevent a worldwide catastrophe.

Cavill will play as Napoleon Solo and Hammer will play Illya Kuryakin. Among the other cast members are Hugh Grant as Mr. Waverly, Elizabeth Debicki as Victoria and Alicia Vikander as Gaby.

The film was initially given to Steven Soderbergh but had soon dropped out of the project. Guy Ritchie committed as the new director by March of 2013.

In the casting scheme, George Clooney was the initial actor to play Napoleon Solo, but later left the project and among those who were candidates for the role were Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale and Michael Fassbender. After Clooney left, the producers approached Tom Cruise for the Solo role, in that same time, Armie Hammer was chosen as Cruise's partner. But due to conflicts with Mission Impossible 5, Cruise dropped out too. It was then that Cavill took the role left by Clooney and Cruise.

The film was previously set for a January 16, 2015 release but Warner Bros pushed back the film's release date to August 14, 2015.
