Sinister 2 is a follow up to the 2012 horror film Sinister. The first movie received positive reviews from critics and holds a 63% score from Rotten Tomatoes. The critical consensus states "Its plot hinges on typically implausible horror-movie behavior and recycles countless genre cliches, but Sinister delivers a surprising number of fresh, diabolical twists."

A sequel was announced to be in the works in March 2013, with Scott Derrickson in talks to co-pen the script with C. Robert Cargill, but not to direct, as Derrickson did on the first film.

On 17 April 2014, it was announced that Ciaran Foy will direct the film, while Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Charles Layton, Xavier Marchand and Patrice Théroux will executive produce the sequel with eOne Entertainment.

The movie will star original cast members James Ransone and Shannyn Sossamon. They will be joined in by Sheba Giles, Laila Haley, Tate Ellington and Nick King as Bughuul a.k.a Mr. Boogie.

Filming commenced on August 2014 in Chicago and lasted for six weeks on locations including St. Anne and outside the village of Grant Park.

Meanwhile, composing duo Tormandandy will compose the score to this year's awaited horror film. The duo were credited with works from The Mothman Prophecies, P2, The Strangers, and Resident Evil: Retribution. This news was confirmed via their Twitter account.

In first plot details, "In the aftermath of the shocking events in Sinister, a protective mother (Sossamon) and her 9-year-old twin sons (Robert and Dartanian Sloan) find themselves in a rural house marked for death. James Ransone, who portrayed the concerned sheriff's deputy in Sinister, will be reprising his character in Sinister 2."

Sinister 2 release date will be on August 21, 2015.
